Need a fun, beautiful gift in a hurry? I designed this one a few years ago, and it is my go-to when I need a quick gift. It is designed for a layer cake, but you can just as easily make it with a charm pack for a lovely baby gift! This is the first quilt in my new series of Weekender quilts that can be made in a day or two. This makes a 72.5 x 72.5 inch quilt! Ready to get started? You will need: 1 layer cake or 34 squares 2.5 yards background fabric 2/3 yard binding 4.5 yards backing fabric batting Sewing machine, pins and thread Choose 8 layer cake squares and trim to 9.5 inches (this is a good place to use large prints!) Choose 26 squares to use in half square triangles Set the rest of your layer cake aside to use in another project. I always remove the background prints if there are any and use them later in a scrappy low-volume quilt! Cut your background fabric into (8) 9.5-inch squares and (22) 10-inch squares. Let's make some half square triangles! Draw a line diagonally on the back of (22) 10-inch background squares. Layer one with a 10-inch print square, right sides together, and sew down each side of the drawn line with a quarter-inch seam allowance. Carefully cut along the drawn diagonal line to yield 2 half square triangles. Make 44 total print/background half square triangles. Trim to 9.5 inches square. Draw a line diagonally on the back of (2) 10-inch print squares. Layer one with another print square, right sides together, and sew down each side of the diagonal line using a quarter-inch seam allowance. Carefully cut along the drawn diagonal line to yield 2 print/print half square triangles. Make 4 total print/print half square triangles. Trim to 9.5 inches square. Need some fabric inspiration? Here is my latest one! I used Fresh Fig Favorites by Fig Tree, but this pattern looks great in any fabrics! Now let's start assembling our quilt top! Assemble (2) background squares, (2) print squares, (1) print/print half square triangle, and (11) print/background half square triangles into one quadrant as show below. Make four quadrants. Now assemble the top by rotating the quadrants to make the design as shown below. Quilt and bind as desired! I'm super busy sewing up some other fun stuff, so I'll be sending mine to Gina Tell to quilt and bind for me! You can find her here: www.thread-graffiti.com/
Ta-da, you are done ♥

Thanks for the sharing this cute & weekend friendly pattern! I work full-time and squeeze in my sewing/quilting mostly on weekends, in between housework & all that other fun stuff that must get done. Just like so many other quilters/sewists out there.
